Barrel Aged Nocino 2024

The successor to our CASK award -winning vintage comes this years 2024 Barrel-Aged Nocino.

The beautiful thing about vintages is that they tell a story, making each and every one unique. Friends of The Woods may have noticed that we have decided to skip a year, moving straight from 2022 to 2024. The wildfires in the Okanagan made harvesting extremely difficult over the past few years, and so we decided to reserve some cask stock from previous harvests. In doing so we have created the best Nocino yet- aged for 2 years in bourbon barrels- Nocino 2024 has a complexity and character that only time in a cask can create.

This additional time in the cask has changed everything. The bright aromatic spice our Nocino is known for has evolved tremendously, creating an extremely rich complement of flavors from toasted cacao and caramelized brown sugar to gingersnaps and fruit cake. What was a delicious bomb of fragrant rich walnut liqueur has built character and depth. Nutty Nicaraguan coffee, black cherries, fresh orange zest fall out of this spirit and we couldn't be happier with it.

NOSE

Chocolate, molasses, black cherry, gingersnaps, orange peel, clove, raisins

FLAVOUR

Dark chocolate, fruit cake, brown butter, ginger snaps, arabica coffee, sweet walnut, vanilla, cacao

FINISH
Aromatic clove, cinnamon, caramelized brown sugar, nutty, softly bitter dry finish

After the annual harvest, walnuts are chopped and macerated “on-the-nuts“ with a combination of herbs and spices. After maceration, Nocino is left to rest for a period before aging in ex-bourbon barrels for 2 years. The left over nuts are pressed and the intensely dark, bitter liquid vacuum distilled through our one-of-a-kind vacuum still. Our liqueur is sweetened and combined with a pinch of sea salt and the ghost of Nocino past.
